Dallas Raines Obituary

          Dallas Lee Raines Sr. Was born on August 27th 1954 in Roberto, Georgia  to  Hommie Lee Respress and Paris  Lee Respress. At the age of just 8 years old his mother departed from this world. Dallas later moved to New York with his grandparents, Mattie Bell and Homer Respress where he graduated high school. As Dallas approached his 20’s he then married Minnie Sue Ingram Kelly and they had two children, (Son) Dallas A. Raines Jr. & (Daughter) Churise Raines, both born in New York. During this time he started working for Red Hook Chemical Company in Brooklyn, N.Y. Approaching his early 30’s he then divorced his wife Minnie and started working for the Long Island College Truck and Delivery Company. After a few years working with the company he met his wife Peggy Herring in 1986. Together they welcomed three children: (Son) Leequan Herring in N.C. (Daughter) Krystal Herring in Oklahoma, (Son) Teriq Herring Oklahoma. Dallas & Peggy later moved to Manhattan, N.Y. Where he started working with New York City Sanitation in 1993. After seven years Dallas & Peggy then relocated to Long Island, New York where they bought their first home together raising their three children. Then after eight years later they moved to Bayside, N.Y where they resided for eighteen years. Dallas then retired with twenty one years on the job in April 2013 from the New York City Sanitation Department badge #9675. After retirement all Dallas wanted to do was be with family & friends and enjoying life as well as having amazing parties. Because of this Dallas was given the nickname “The Godfather” which is a title he cherished very much. 

             Dallas Lee Raines was a husband, father and friend at all times.Dallas would help anyone in need. Dallas was always about making sure his family had what they needed & wanted. Dallas Lee Raines will truly be missed. On June 19th 2019 Dallas took a vacation with his wife to see his daughter and grandkids in Oklahoma City, Ok in which he fell ill after a broken hip. He was under extreme distress for many months going through diff times hospitals in Oklahoma. On April 14th, Jesus called Dallas Lee Raines home. He leaves behind a wife - Peggy Herring from Queens,NY (Son) Leequan Herring of Jacksonville,NC, (daughter) Krystal Herring  from Oklahoma City,OK , (son) Teriq Herring from Queens,NY, Dallas “Antwon” Raines from Connecticut, a stepson Jamel Raines as well as two grand children Bianca & Cameron of Okc and also two nieces Tomicka & Ronika of Georgia. Also his brother Wilie and sister in law Marie and Stefan who was like a son to him.  He will be missed by a whole host of family & friends that he left behind.   

Private Graveside service will be Wednesday, April 22, 2020 at Roseboro Cemetery, Roseboro, NC
