Herman Hill, 57, entered into eternal peace on Friday, April 10, 2026, at Montefiore St. Luke’s Hospital, Newburgh NY.
Herman was born on December 12, 1968, at Bladen County Hospital in Elizabethtown, North Carolina, to the late Virginia Mae Hill and Herman McLeod. He was educated in the Bladen County and Newburgh Enlarged School Districts.
Herman was a self-employed carpenter and truly a jack of many trades. Known for his hardworking spirit and willingness to help others, he used his skills to support not only himself but those around him.
He leaves to cherish his memories: Juanita Campbell of Newburgh, NY; his beloved children, twins Herman Gray of Lilburn, GA, and Taleka Gray of Elizabethtown, NC; his stepchildren, Eden Campbell of Clarkton, NC, and Kwama Cruz Smith of Raeford, NC; seven grandchildren, three bonus children: Damon Cousar, Davon Cousar and Jada Cousar, all of Newburgh NY, three bonus grandchildren, of his father, Herman McLeod of Elizabethtown, NC; and his two sisters, Lisa Hill of Newburgh, NY, and Rolanda Dennis of Elizabethtown, NC. He is also survived by three goddaughters: Ieshia Hill of Fayetteville NC, Verna Francis and NyAjha Brown of Newburgh NY; three aunts, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Herman will be remembered for his craftsmanship, his generosity, and the love he shared with family and friends. His presence will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his mother Virginia Mae Hill, brother Victor Leo Hill, and granddaughter Heaven Gray.
Funeral Service will be Saturday, April 25, 2026 at 1:00 pm at Baldwin Branch MBC (4047 Hwy 242 S, Elizabethtown, NC 28337.
Interment: Cromartie Hill AME Zion Church Cemetery (5670 US 701 Highway, Clarkton, NC 28433).
Public Viewing will be Saturday, April 25, 2026 at the church one hour before the service.
Funeral Service will be live-streamed at the time of service.
