Luerene (Howard) Melvin

Mother Luerene Howard Melvin, daughter of the late Harry & Rena Howard was born June 12, 1925 in Salemburg, NC. 

She attended Sampson County School until 6th Grade. She worked on the farm, and later she was the Family & Neighbor  Babysitter for many years. She married James Nathaniel Melvin on April 17, 1943, who precede her in death May 13, 2001. They shared 58 wonderful years together. To this union 10 children were born. Two sons, Barry and Walter Melvin, One daughter, Geraldine Raynor preceded her in death, Two sisters-Equilla Pridgen, Cora Tucker, Seven brothers-Kellie, Lonnie, George, Harry Jr., Martin, David, Henry Buck also preceded her in death. 

She joined Mingle Hill Disciples of Christ church September 1943 and was a faithful member until her health started to decline. She served as an Usher, Sunday School Teacher (All Four Classes), Mother Board, Home Mission Department, Senior Choir Member, Young Adult Choir Advisor and Cafeteria Work. 

She leaves to cherish her wonderful memories: Daughters-Estelle Matthews and Florine Melvin of Fayetteville, NC; Five Sons-James Nathan (Joyce) of Roseboro, NC, Willie (Alma) of Clinton, NC, Daniel (Mae) of Selma, NC Roland (Urline) and Perry (Caregiver) of Salemburg. 21 Grandchildren, 50 Great Grandchildren, 13 Great-Grandchildren, One Sister-Jessie Smith of Philadelphia PA, and two brother Samuel Howard of Fayetteville, NC and Atlas Howard of Salemburg, NC Eight Sister-in-Laws, One Brother-in-Law, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. 

Graveside Service: Friday, June 11, 2021 at Hillcrest Cemetery, Clinton, NC at 12:00 Noon

Public Walkthrough: Friday, June 11, 2021 10:30 am to 11:30 am at Butler & Son Funeral Home, Roseboro, NC 

Masks are required to attend viewing and service. Graveside service will be livestreamed through Butler & Son Funeral Home Facebook Page.
