On Tuesday, November 24, 2020 our heavenly Father closed the door of life on earth for Mother Mary J. Bennett. Born on December 26th, 1916 to the late Levi and Elizabeth Murphy, she was the matriarch of the Bennett family.
Mother Bennett was proceeded in death by her husband, Deacon Clarence Bennett, a daughter Margaret, son, Ronnie and grandson, Brian K. Jones. She was united in matrimony to Clarence Bennett and to this union four children were born. They were married 52 years.
She joined Littlefield Baptist Church in 1924 under the direction of Reverend McSwain. Her entire life has been built on continuous dedication and faithful service. Mother Bennett served in many capacities and leadership roles in the church. For 15 years she led as President of the senior choir, taught Juniors in BTU (Baptist Training Union), taught Sunday School and lastly, served as Vice-President of the Adult Missionary Circle. We would ask her, “Are you going to church today?” She would reply, “That is the only place I ask to go”. She loved her church and would like to attend at every opportunity provided.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory, daughters Jackie B. Gooding of Jacksonville, NC, Kathy B. Strickland of Newton Grove, NC and Rose B. Garvey of Rock Hill, SC, one daughter in-law-Barbara Bennett of Fayetteville, NC, 12 grandchildren, including Vickie Baggett (Wayne) of Garner, NC and Sharyn Davis (Allen) of Raleigh, NC who were religiously devoted to her care, 12 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
There is a new void that cannot be filled, but your worries and uncertainties have been stilled. God has chosen you as a rose for His vase and in our heart is an empty space.
A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, you’ve been aunt, cousin and friend. Our memories of you none can steal; but God shall in time our heartaches heal.
