Our beloved Melvin Whitener name was called and entered into eternal rest Monday, May 31, 2021. Melvin made a peaceful transition at home.
He was born on December 12, 1938 at home in Beacon, NY. He was the son of the late Henry and Mazzie Whitener. He was the first born of four children with three sisters. His wife, Angela Whitener proceeded him in death.
Melvin received his education at Beacon High School in Beacon, NY where he participated in football in which he inducted into the Beacon Hall of Fame where his aware is hanging on the hall at Beacon High School. This was a very proud moment for Melvin. His football team went two years undefeated. After high school, Melvin enlisted into the Army. After his honorable discharge, Melvin returned home to Beacon, NY.
Melvin married Angela Whitener on April 30, 1960 at the Reform church of Beacon, NY. With this union they were blessed with two children, Andre C. Whitener and Sherry Dyer. Melvin worker at Ford Motor Company in Mahwah, NJ which he took an early retirement. He then began to work as an armed security guard at Indian Point Nuclear Power Plant located in Buchanan, NY.
After full retirement, Melvin and Angela moved back to Angela's hometown of Clinton, NC. Melvin was an avid sports fan and participated in many. He played VFW Softball. He was a player/catcher and also manager of the team. He also loved to bowl and fish.
The memory, inspiration, love, and strength as well as laughter will always be engraved in the hearts of the ones who loved him. Melvin leaves to cherish his precious memories of him; his son: Andre C. Whitener of Beacon, NY and his daughter: Sherry Dyer of Clinton. Granddaughters: Shyeda Whitener of Mobile, Alabama, Tania Whitener of Beacon, NY. Grandson: Gerald (Mookie) Dyer of Pittsfield, MA. Two Great Grandchildren: Davione Whitener of Mobile, Alabama and Atiyana Whitfield of Beacon, NY. Three loving Sisters: Joyce McCollum (Ted) of Hampton, Georgia, Connie Perdreau of Wappingers Falls, New York, and Pamela Dawkins which was more like a daughter than a sister of Newburgh, New York. A host of nieces and nephews which he loved as his own. A devoted and loving best friend more than a sister, his sister-in-law Mildred Baylor of Clinton, NC and a brother-in-law, Thomas Sampson (Bobbie) of Dudley, NC.
Melvin Whitener (Heavy Juice) will be truly missed by many.
