Robert Dye Jr. Obituary

Robert Dye was Born July 23, 1941 in Chester, South Carolina to the late Robert Dye Sr and Bertha Dye.  

He attended and graduated from Chester County School System in Chester, South Carolina. He gave his life to the Lord at an early age and attended Janes Memorial United Methodist church in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.   After high school, Bob relocated to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  He later joined the United States Army.  While in the military, he received a Purple Heart, National Defense Service Metal, the Vietnam Service Metal, the Vietnam Campaign metal and the Combat Infantryman badge.   

After leaving the military, he moved back to Philadelphia where he worked for and later retired from the City of Philadelphia.  

He met and married the love of his life, Sharon Jones Dye.  He moved from Philadelphia to Plattville, Alabama where he and Sharon built a life together for over 17 years. Although he had no biological children of his own, Bob became a “bonus” dad for six children and later he and Sharon adopted six additional children.  Bob was a loving father and would do anything in the world for his children who affectionally called him “pops”.  Sharon lovingly shared that he was the perfect husband and father. 

The community referred to Bob as a “good” man.  He was always helping out in any way that he could. Upon moving to Alabama, he joined the Father, Son and Holy Ghost church in Platteville. He was known for his kindness and hospitality where he served on the Usher board ensuring that visitors and members always felt at home. Bob had many hobbies but one of his favorites was gardening

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Sr and Mrs Bertha Dye as well as his step mom, Carrie Dye, a brother Charles Dye and his mother in law, Lori Jones of Salemburg, NC  

He leaves fond memories to his wife, Sharon and his children, Angela Preston of Hoover, Alabama, Aaron Pace of Prattville, Alabama, Monique Pace, Lillington, NC, Cody Pace of New York, Virgina Pace of Lillington NC, Catherine Pace of Camden South Carolina, Courtney Dye of  Angier, NC, Anniya Dye of Panama Beach, Florida, Charlie Dye of Lillington, NC,  Edwin, Edria and Shaniya Dye of the home.  He is survived by one brother, William Dye (Cynthia) Philadelphia, Pennsylvania,  2 sisters in law, Jennifer Davis Jones of Hope Mills, NC, Lori Jones of Benson, NC, 5 brothers in law, Bob Jones (Peggy) of Florence, SC, Robert Jones (Elaine) of Virginia Beach, Va, Gary Jones (Toni) of Clayton, NC, Stevie Jones (Nikki) Clinton, NC and Mike Jones (Angela) of Salemburg, NC .  In addition, he leaves fond memories to 11 grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. 

Funeral Service will be Saturday, June 1, 2024 at Cape Fear A Conference Headquarters (25 Beaver Road, Erwin, NC 28339) at 11:00 am.  

Interment will be Wednesday, June 5, 2024 at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery (8220 Bragg Blvd, Fort Bragg, NC 28310) at 2:00 pm with military honors.
